Hello! I’m Huong. I’m an Oakland native raised in a large Vietnamese family, and these are my stories of how cultures came together through food, connection, and care.

One of my favorite childhood memories is Sunday Family Lunches at Bà Ngoại’s house. Her traditional Vietnamese food brought together the cậu/chú (uncles), dì/cô (aunts), and bạn bè (friends) for full bellies and loud laughs. Even during the week, I’d always look forward to visiting just to watch her work her magic in the kitchen. Over time, I found that same warmth in other kitchens—welcomed in by cậu and cô both near and far.

When I got to UC Berkeley, I was introduced to flavors from around the world. Without Bà Ngoại nearby, I started testing recipes and trying to recreate the feeling of those family lunches. Vietnamese ingredients weren’t always easy to find, but I discovered local stores carrying items from all over—and started noticing the common threads between Vietnamese dishes and other global cuisines. Food preparation, recipe inspiration, and even flavor pairings often had so much in common.

Professionally, I lead HR and operations at a nonprofit supporting people with disabilities. My work focuses on care, inclusion, and making sure people feel seen and supported—values that also show up in the way I cook, gather, and share stories. Whether at work or in the kitchen, I’ve learned that creating a sense of belonging starts with intention and heart.

I’m not a trained chef—just someone who grew up surrounded by love, food, and community. Drawing from Bà Ngoại’s kitchen, my relatives, Food Network, and social media, I’ve gathered recipes and memories that are easy to make and occasionally draw on Vietnamese influences. Everything I know has come from people who’ve welcomed me into their kitchens.

Welcome to my kitchen! I’m so glad you’re here.
